Blog Post #4

My early experiences with Twitter for this class have been positive experiences.  A classmate reached out to me after seeing my tweet about the newsletter assignment through direct message and asked me a question about the assignment.  Having the twitter account is a great way to connect with fellow students in a more fun way rather than just sending emails.  I also like being able to follow different professionals in the field.  Something I found interesting was a professional made a tweet discussing fair use and copy right laws the same day we discussed it in class.  Having Twitter has allowed me to keep up with classmates and learn a thing or two in a familiar place since I have been using this social media platform for quite some time.  I think Twitter might be helpful in my future career by giving me fresh ideas for the classroom and to keep up with the most up to date trends in teaching.

The digital divide can affect a student's success in the classroom, outside the classroom, and in the future as well.  When listening to this podcast, the digital divide may be unfair, but it is important for the teacher to prepare in class assignments where all students can learn how to properly use technology.  Some causes for the digital divide are social class of the students and the area in which the school is located.  A middle class student will most likely have more access to technology and internet access than a lower class student.  It is crucial for the teacher to clarify which students have access and which ones do not.  This way homework assignments are geared to online or geared towards completing it without technology.  Being sensitive to students needs and lifestyles is imperative for teachers and being able to adapt and adjust can help students.

As an aspiring high school English teacher, I expect to use frequently is academic database software.  The high school I attended had purchased subscriptions to many databases that allowed me to conduct proper research for my English research assignments.  This type software is great to teach students how to properly research a topic, discover, and cite.  Another type of software I expect to use is presentation software like PowerPoint and interactive types of presentation apps like nearpod that allows my class to follow along on their device and answer questions. Software that I do not expect to use frequently is graphic software because I feel like these are more helpful for math classes where teachers are expected to show graphs.
