Blog Post #7

Using Twitter for educational purposes never crossed my mind before entering this course.  I am actually amazed at how many educational tweets are made.  So many people post links to helpful websites like teacher management help, technological advances seen in the classroom, and even different iPhone apps that students can use.  I have learned how useful Twitter can be for a teacher.  Communicating with peers is a great feature of Twitter.  I, as well as, teachers can benefit from using Twitter because it is another way to share information with your colleagues, but in a more relaxed and simple way.  Hashtags are also really beneficial because I can see how many people are discussing one topic and even get into the conversation with them.  I have not had any problems with using Twitter for this class.

Some new skills I required while working on the Web Page Design are embedding a calendar from google and making that calendar public and how to use the Weebly web design.  I did not know how to do this before so it was pretty cool to see my calendar from one site be reflected on the other website instantly.  I also never used Weebly before, but I really liked how this website made it easy to design websites in my own way.  I used my previous knowledge of adding hyperlinks and adapting my knowledge from encountering websites daily to make my own.  I liked how Weebly allowed me to be creative, but also formal.  I think I can improve on the design as a whole next time I use Weebly because I will be more comfortable using the website.  I definitely see myself using Weebly again for not only educational purposes, but for personal uses as well.  I think teachers can benefit from using Weebly because it can enhance communication between students and parents and it is pretty easy to maneuver.  I have attached a link to my website as well as a picture of the homepage below.

I think Diigo is a great asset for teachers to communicate and share with colleagues and students.  I really liked what we did in class today with completing something similar to a discussion board.  Teachers can use this as a way to involve students outside of the classroom and further enhance classroom discussion.  Being able to annotate right on the page is a great feature that teachers and students can benefit from.  Also, being able to share and see others annotations can also enhance learning and classroom discussion.  As a group, we can share and see what other people post which can allow other group members to benefit from what other people find on the internet.  As an individual, I will use Diigo to annotate and bookmark pages when I write research papers because it keeps all of my notes and links in one page for easy access.
